Our Story

In the 15th Century, Native Americans played contests on a field miles long. Teams were armed with over a thousand athletes on a side. The Natives called it the Creator's Game and played it with a passion nothing short of worship. These battles were played to cure disease, to change the weather and often as an alternative to war. Jesuit missionaries, in an area known as Thunder Bay, noted the resemblance between sticks they used and a bishop's staff - or crosse - and gave the Creator's Game a new name - Lacrosse.

Today, ThunderBay 1637 celebrates this rich tradition and history our game offers. It inspired us to create a line of apparel for those who share our passion for a sport that is truly legendary. Built for men, women and youth, it is not reserved for only the lacrosse purist - the enduring quality and natural hues and fabrics of ThunderBay 1637 is for any discerning individual with impeccable, classic styling and taste.

The Future

Lacrosse is the fastest growing youth sport in America. The sport has literally exploded across the country. This spring, 264 colleges fielded men's lacrosse teams; 348 fielded women's college teams; 100,000 fans packed Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium to watch the 2010 NCAA lacrosse finals. This year though, the athletes played not as an alternative to war, not to cure disease, not to change the weather. They played and will continue to play simply for the love of a game and a sport rich with history, tradition and style.
